Jaroslaw (Slavko) Martyniuk is a retired energy economist and sociologist. Born in Ukraine, he with his family escaped Communism and eventually immigrated to Chicago, where he worked for Amoco Oil. In 1979, he was appointed to a diplomatic post with the International Energy Agency (IEA) in Paris. In the mid-eighties, he morphed into a researcher for the Soviet Area Audience and Opinion Research (SAAOR) in Paris, coordinating a network of fifty Russian-speaking interviewers conducting unorthodox research with Soviet visitors on behalf of Radio Liberty in Munich. In 1995, Martyniuk joined InterMedia in Washington, DC, where his brief expanded to include research in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. Martyniuk speaks five languages and has written numerous analytical articles.
